Probably the easiest way to get started is to get a few friends together, call yourselves FreakBikers and then go ride! Simple but it works. Even if you've only got one FreakBike in the whole group, don't worry ... if you build it, they will envy. Then they'll want to ride yours! By all means, Let Them! They will be hooked and then it's all down hill! They build FreakBikes, their friends see the fun they're having and want to join in!
So you've got your initial FreakBike Militia started, a few crazy friends and you. But you want more! Start hitting the local bike shops, grocery stores and any other place that has a bulletin board or is willing to flop some of your flyers out on their counters. Advertise your cruises, shows and events all over town. Don't be afraid to give the local newspapers and radio stations a heads up. Sometimes they show and sometimes they blow, but it's worth a shot!
Cars Shows and Motorcycle shows are a great place to go and promote your FBM. It sounds kinda wierd but Car Shows have been more receptive to the FBM-GL than the motorcycle shows, but hit them both up. If you can get a small boothe cheap enough, get your members to chip in and make a day out of it. Make sure you get enough room to display your bikes and hand out some pamphlets or flyers about upcoming events!
If you can't afford the boothe route, then see if the promoter will let you hand out flyers as you're wondering around enjoying the event. Don't underestimate the powers of paper! Many people stuff the flyers in their pockets and don't seem interested at the time, but on the way home, at the restaurant or in the crapper, they pull them out and carefully read the ones that catch their interest. So plan your flyers and pamphlets well! Make them eye popping and detailed in what's going on and where it's happening!
I'm hoping to keep this a never ending page of ideas for starting and promoting FreakBike Militia chapters. If any of you Freaks have any ideas please feel free to email us and we'll get them on the site.
